Now that my mind flies
With the power of the wings of a gull
Now that the sea
Has taken on a most disconsolate air
And now that the harsh winds
Of a storm from some place unknown
Speak out in anguish and tremble
The soft grass in its seaside bed
Now that you are standing next to me
Grafted in my mind
At this cliff’s edge where all around me
Is whispering death death death.
You are not here and the dreaded moment has come
I the accused am the judge
The assembled jury has taken on a most solemn air
What is there left but to turn around and run
Thereby cheating death yet another time?
Now that there is reticence
That freezes the warm rays of the retiring sun
Now that you will stay and I will go
I fighting to forget and you to remember
How can I look you in the eye and brace myself to say;
Now is the day the moment and the place
Take your pieces of gold and run?
