WHEN THE FINAL NIGHT COMES

I once met a comely lady
Of all creatures there is none fairer
Her voice so sweet
Her smiles sticks and never wash away
Angels sometimes come as man

That first day I saw her
I shudder in shame and fain to run
For of all creatures there is none fairer

One day I stood over one opened grave
Her body lay lifeless in that unadorned coffin
Yes her death came too early to us
She was the lover I never had
Some said it was unfair
I watched her descending down the hills of eternity
Her charming smiles were all gone
Leaving her greyish lips and a stinking body

That last day I saw her
I shudder and fain to run
For of all creatures there is none uglier

Today I wander back the memory lane
If this is the end of all man
Of what use is all our blind cravings then?
Some live in bitterness, some in fear
Long or short, life's worth living well
These great dreams driving us nut will matter no more
When the final night comes
