I Never Fall in Love Again

I am that flower of innocence
That blossoms in the dawn of silent mornings
I am the beautiful rose
With stretched petals in the wind
The words of my father
Directs the steppings of my youth
The whispers of my mother
Guides my feeble knees of infancy
Beware of the rogues
Clustered in the village market
Be cautious of the foxes
Littering the dance square of darkness
But each night
Arike hangs out in the stillness of a smiling moon
Clasped in the arms of Terigbola
And she is happy
Each morning we go down the village stream
Awero tells me of his new found love
And she is happy
Can't I be happy too?
Am I not lost and lonely?
Am I not missing a necessary part of my existence?
What fantasy is yet unknown
Hidden within the high walls of love?

I have uncovered this mystery
Love is purchased by my peace
I only trusted him
And I am lost in its maze
Drown in its swamp
Fell off headlong the unprotected edge of its cliff
Now I know too well
That love is a lie
Curse be that day I met you
Curse be that night I said yes
You break my trust
Upon the same bed
That once soaked my virgin blood
The hammers that chattered my heart
Were hidden in your hogs of betrayal
You are my first love
The first summon from hell and death too

Now you are lost
In the labyrinth of a virgin heart
And the innocent girl
Is too blind to notice
That you are a beast
A chameleon who hides its venom
A leopard whose spots are never washed
Your destiny is to die
Within the laps of harlots

But now...I cry more for my scars
The trails of tragedies you left behind
Every cracks in my heart
Have tales of woes to tell
Now that you have gone
I will never fall in love
Never again
I will never fall in love
Never again
I will never trust no one
Never again
For all men are rogues
Angels today
Devils tomorrow
